TOWN OF HIGH LEVEL - UPDATE | JUNE 12, 2019 at 11:50 AM

The Town of High Level remains in a State of Local Emergency due to the wildfires in our region.  Remaining in a State of Local Emergency allows the Town to respond to possible changing fire conditions and to reintroduce an Evacuation Alert if changes in fire conditions were to again threaten our community.

The State of Local Emergency does not require any action or response from residents, however we strongly encourage everyone to remain vigilant and prepared.

If a change in fire behaviour requires the Town to reintroduce an Evacuation Alert there are a few things you can do to protect yourself, your family, and your property.

1)    Prepare an emergency kit.  The Government of Alberta has information at https://www.alberta.ca/build-an-emergency-kit.aspx on how to build an emergency kit to sustain your family for 72 hours.
2)    Gather your treasured belongings for quick transport.  Place photos, family memento’s, etc. in boxes or containers that can be quickly loaded into your vehicle.  Make certain to limit what you take to ensure you have room for your emergency kit and to maintain visibility in your vehicle.
3)    Fire Smart your property.  Take the time to move flammable objects away from your home. This would include lawn furniture, propane bottles, jerry cans, firewood and other items that may easily catch fire.  Not only does this help reduce the chance of fire, but it also gives the fire department space to protect your home if that becomes necessary.
