About Mayor McAteer
My name is Crystal McAteer and I am the Mayor of the town of High Level, Alberta. I spent the past four decades educating children to become successful adults, by teaching them that if you see a problem in your community; work towards fixing it. It is up to the leaders of communities to cultivate relationships. When I became mayor, I made a strong commitment to work towards forming partnerships with our neighbours the Dene Tha First Nation and to help spread economic opportunity to all parts of the region. Our first successful venture with the Dene Tha was building a waterline to their community of Bushie. We continue to work together towards a Multipurpose/Evacuation Facility and a Joint Emergency plan. I was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for volunteering which I have done most of my life and being a part of the Town of High Level Council, is just one more public service I feel passionate about. I hold a BPE. and a Bed., with a major in Aboriginal Studies from the University of Alberta.
