Our Visitor Information Centre has an extensive array of local, regional, provincial and national travel information. Community members and visitors alike can access Town of High Level information packages or vacation planning brochures and maps.
The primary exhibit in the Museum, the “Northern Trading Post”, features an outstanding collection of over 16,00 food and medicine containers, donated by local residents. These, plus other artifacts in use during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, are showcased in a typical Trading Post/General Store setting with living quarters attached. Supplementary displays also feature farming, trapping, and native peoples of the region. A regional historical photo display is a valued part of the collection.
Local and travelling displays and activities rotate through the Interpretive Gallery throughout the year.
Schools and groups can experience the life of early pioneers by dressing up and taking a guided tour back in time. After the tour they can participate in programs such as candle dipping, and butter making.
Some of the events that are hosted at the Mackenzie Crossroads Museum and Visitors Centre include: Craft and Bake Sales, Old Fashioned Christmas Open House, Annual Photo Challenge on “What I Love about High Level” and an Annual Art show.
You can take a ride on a horse drawn wagon, go on a snowmobile ride, try some pioneer crafts, have cookies and hot chocolate and just experience some Old Fashioned Fun at our Christmas Open House. Local artists of all ages, mediums, and talents are encouraged to exhibit their works in our Annual Art Show from June to July. Keep those cameras ready for that perfect picture to submit in our Annual Photo Challenge: “What I Love about High Level”.
The Gift Shop sells works of local artisans and photographers as well as souvenir items.
